Liposuction Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body to improve contour and achieve a more sculpted appearance.

Who is a good candidate for Liposuction?

Good candidates have stable body weight with BMI less than 30, firm and elastic skin, and specific areas of localized fat deposits that do not respond well to diet and exercise.

What areas of the body can be treated with Liposuction?

Common treatment areas include the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms, neck, and more. Liposuction can be performed on various body regions.

How is Liposuction performed?

During the procedure, small incisions are made in the target area, and a thin tube (cannula) is inserted to suction out the excess fat. The area is then sculpted to achieve the desired contour.

What types of Liposuction techniques are there?

Techniques include traditional suction assisted liposuction or Power-Assisted Liposuction.  Our preferred technique involves using the Microaire Power Assisted device.

Is Liposuction a weight loss solution?

No, liposuction is not a weight loss solution. It is best suited for targeting specific areas of stubborn fat. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for long-term results.

What type of anesthesia is used for Liposuction?

Liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure and patient preferences.

How long is the recovery period for Liposuction?

Recovery time varies, but patients can generally expect some swelling and bruising for a few weeks. Compression garments must be worn to support the healing process.  Garments will generally need to be downsized after the first few weeks once swelling subsides.  Lymphatic massage after liposuction is encouraged starting within 3 days of the procedure.

Can Liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Yes, liposuction can be performed alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures, such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or breast augmentation, for comprehensive body contouring.

Are there risks associated with Liposuction?

As with any surgical procedure, liposuction carries potential risks, including infection, bleeding, changes in sensation, and contour irregularities. Choosing a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon is crucial to minimize these risks.

How long do the results of Liposuction last?

Liposuction provides long-lasting results, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important to prevent weight gain in untreated areas.

Can Liposuction remove cellulite?

Liposuction is not specifically designed to treat cellulite. It primarily targets excess fat, and while it may improve the appearance of cellulite in some cases, it is not a guaranteed solution.  We do provide cellulite treatment with an FDA approved device and technique.  Please inquire specifically for more details.
